Good idea for CFLs

Posted on Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

As we all know, while CFLs are great for the environment in terms of the energy they save, they’re not great for the environment if disposed of improperly. The EPA recommends taking burned out CFLs to an appropriate recycling program or hazardous waste collection site. If that can’t happen, the EPA recommends double-bagging the CFL before tossing it in the trash.

Not everyone has a CFL recycling program nearby (check out the EPA’s site to see if you do). So Mindy LaClair, a student at Art Center College of Design, designed an idea for CFL packaging that would allow the box in which you purchased the new bulb to be reused to send in your CFL to be recycled.
