Tips on taking this pledge:

Make it a habit to bring a few reusable bags wherever you go. Stash a couple in the car and write a reminder at the top of your grocery list. Don't have any reliable bags? STAY VOCAL is donating a percentage of each reusable bag purchased through their online store to New American Dream, while ReusableBags.com is offering a 20 percent discount to anyone who takes the December C3 pledge.

For more information and resources, please visit our new Reusable Bags page in our Conscious Consumer Marketplace. Want to take more actions against disposable bags? Visit ReusableBags.com's action page for ideas.

Why you should take this pledge:

Virtually everything we consume requires an energy input and unleashes a climate impact. Everything. That includes all the products we buy as well as all the bags in which we haul all that stuff home. Each year Americans go through 100 billion plastic shopping bags -- that's 12 million barrels of oil -- and 10 billion paper bags en route to living the consumer lifestyle that is responsible for a quarter of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. This holiday season is a great time to:

  1. Print out a wallet buddy to remind us to be deliberate in our spending and;
  2. Start a habit of carrying our wise and efficient purchases in reusable bags.
